Hudson’s successful transition to a technology-enabled service business has received national recognition after being named ‘One to Watch’ in the inaugural AFR Digital Transformation Leaders Awards.

The awards, compiled in association with Boston Consulting Group (BCG), are designed to identify Australian companies that have successfully applied digital technologies and ways of working to enhance customer experience, improve efficiency and productivity and increase data-driven decision making.

Hudson Global Resources was one of four companies nominated as “ones to watch” and the only organisation of 14 recognised across all awards to operate in the staffing or recruitment sectors.

One of the initiatives highlighted in Hudson’s submission was the creation of flexhive by Hudson, an on-demand talent platform that specialises in providing contingent workers in customer service, support and administration roles across Australia and New Zealand.

flexhive by Hudson CEO Martin Hayden said the company’s approach from the outset of creating the platform was to focus on how to better meet its customers’ needs.

“We recognised there was a gap in both quality and speed in the way traditional recruitment models better client and candidate experience,” he said.

“The judging panel’s decision was based on strict criteria, including our investment in tech platforms and strategy execution, and to be named alongside some really well-known brands, most of which are much larger than us, is a remarkable result.

“Digital transformation does not happen overnight but our success has been built on taking a long-term view, putting our customers’ needs at the centre of all our initiatives and ensuring commitment across levels of our organisation from the Board down.

“We also brought in a new mix of talent to help realise our ambitions, from product managers and software engineers to digital marketing experts, and that investment has well and truly paid off.”

In announcing the award recipients, the AFR said a panel of BCG experts had assessed more than 100 entries using the firm’s Digital Transformation Key Success Factors approach.

“The areas judged include assessing the commitment of leaders to the change, looking at how integrated the company’s strategy is with its digital goals and evaluating how effectively technology changes are monitored,” it said.

BCG X Australia and New Zealand Managing Director Michael Schniering added: “We were impressed with Hudson’s approach to anchor their digital transformation objectives in their customer needs and their willingness to bring new talent into their organisation in order to execute.”
